ShesUnCovered is a Lansing, MI, based nonprofit dedicated to supporting and uplifting women and girls facing hair loss due to Alopecia and other conditions. Through community events, image consulting, and confidence coaching, we are here to guide women and girls when it comes to navigating their changing appearance by empowering them to embrace their beauty and confidence.
Our vision is to provide a safe and supportive community where women and girls can find solace, guidance, and encouragement on their unique journey.
Our mission is not about getting everyone to go bald. It’s about uncovering your true beauty from the inside out – emotionally or physically. Throughout every step, our services adapt to our client’s comfort level and personal goals. Being confident in your hair loss isn’t one size fits all and neither are our services.

Our Impact
We were able to help Alechia find the confidence to step outside her comfort zone. She started modeling and speaking at public events, inspiring others. Most importantly, Alechia started showing up for her family, not letting her Alopecia control her life.
Alechia realized her story was more than her hair.
In 2008, Alechia Drane was getting ready for her wedding, when she was diagnosed with Scarring Alopecia.
“I remember days laying in my bed, saying I wasn’t going to get up, I’m not going to eat today,” Alechia said when we asked her about living with Alopecia.
“My word is my bond, but I would begin to say no to going to the movies or parties.”
Alechia was ashamed and embarrassed, thinking her husband would leave her or that she would pass down her Alopecia to her grandchildren. She struggled to find support, but eventually she found ShesUnCovered.
It's not just "hair"
Losing your hair is oftentimes a loss of identity and can harm your self-esteem. When given a diagnosis at your doctor’s office, they may give you a list of places that sell wigs or hats, or unpromising and costly treatments. A list of wig and hat shops, like treatments, are often out of most women and girls’ price range. Additionally, they will not address embarrassment, negative mental health effects, and the uncertainty associated with a diagnosis.
ShesUnCovered is here to help women and girls navigate their lives after diagnosis. By offering accessible and personalized experiences, we help those living with hair loss to recognize that there is still hope. We believe all women and girls deserve to feel beautiful and confident, regardless of their circumstances.
“Many of the women and girls dealing with hair loss experience depression, self-loathing, hopelessness, loneliness, and even suicidal thoughts,” said Nekeyta Brunson.
“At ShesUncovered, we are committed to helping these women and girls realize their worth and value beyond hair.”
